Live Better With Dental Implants in Plymouth

September 2nd, 2010

Plymouth Implant Dentistry Ill-fitting dentures cause more problems for denture wearers in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Plymouth than they solve. If you live with loose dentures, you probably regard them as a necessary evil. Though they certainly look better than a toothless mouth, in practical terms they leave much to be desired because they affect two essential activities: eating and talking.

Unfortunately, many frustrated denture wearers have quit dining in restaurants or engaging in social activities because they are afraid their dentures will slip.

Dental Implants at Boger Dental in Plymouth are allowing former denture patients to re-engage in life.

Consider the advantages of implant anchored dentures:

  • They are stable because the implant is anchored in the bone.
  • Your denture is fixed, it will not move around in your mouth.
  • They prevent bone loss that typically occurs when teeth are removed.
  • They eliminate the necessity of regular denture relines.
  • They do not irritate gums.
  • No denture adhesive is required.

Our dental implant bone clients who have replaced their traditional dentures with implant overdentures enthusiastically say that the dental implant cost was more than worth it.

Do you want to eat normally again? What is the value of maintaining your facial shape? Can you put a price on confidence?

If you want more information about dental implants, call 763-546-7707 to schedule an implant tooth consultation with the Plymouth family dentistry practice Boger Dental.  Boger Dental is located at 2720 Annapolis Circle N., Plymouth MN in Plymouth. We have been providing advanced Minnesota dental care since 1978.

Which Tooth Whitener Works Best in Plymouth?

August 18th, 2010

Dazzling White Teeth in Plymouth What is the best professional tooth whitening system to use in Plymouth?

There are two main types of dentist-supervised tooth whitening systems available that many people use. In order to determine the best choice for your teeth, schedule, and budget, you need to understand the differences in the systems.

Both systems use a bleaching agent containing peroxide. Plymouth dentists who offer professional in-office teeth bleaching use a whitening gel with a high concentration of peroxide. Some in-office tooth whitening systems like our Zoom! Advanced Power Whitening system use a light that causes the tooth bleaching agent to work faster. When the light is shined at teeth on which the whitening gel is applied, it causes the peroxide to break down into free radicals, which are active oxygen molecules. This process naturally occurs without the light, but the light makes it happen faster. That is why you can get whiter teeth in just one hour.

Most Plymouth cosmetic dentists also offer take home tooth whitening systems. Our Deep Bleaching system is considered one of the most effective tooth whitening techniques. Even though at-home systems take a bit longer to work, they achieve the same dramatic results. For many Twin Cities, St. Paul, and Plymouth clients, this is the most affordable teeth whitening system.

At Boger Dental, we offer safe and effective teeth bleaching. Our Plymouth cosmetic dentistry patients can’t believe how great their teeth look when they remove the stains and restore the brightness. If you would like to learn why our system is superior, schedule a consultation by calling our office at 763-546-7707.

Infant and Toddler Teeth Care

August 11th, 2010

Infant and Toddler Teeth Care Though most parents know the basics of children’s dental care, we continue to see cavities in young children at our family dentistry practice.

Caring for your infant’s teeth should begin even before they erupt. To prevent bacteria growth, parents can wash their baby’s gums with a wet washcloth after feedings.

Babies should never be put to bed with a bottle, no matter how tempting it is for tired parents. The sugars in milk or juice that stay in contact with teeth for hours can damage the enamel. When your child gets his first tooth, it is time to brush. Parents should use non-fluoride toothpaste until the child is two years old. Then, use only a tiny dab. Young children often swallow toothpaste while brushing. If a child ingests too much fluoride, teeth can become stained.

When a child is old enough to brush his own teeth, an adult should go over them after the child finishes to make sure they are clean. Most children thoroughly clean the chewing surfaces, but often fail to clean the backsides and gumline. Consult the child-friendly staff and family dentist at Boger Dental about dental sealants.

Monitor your child’s meals and snacks. We all know that sugary snacks are not only bad for growing bodies; they are also bad for teeth. Scheduling set times to drink anything other than water during the day can also help prevent cavities.

To schedule a dental consultation, call Drs. Stephen & Chad Boger at 763-546-7707. We provide family dentistry in the Minneapolis area for children and families.

Overbites And Underbites in Plymouth

July 28th, 2010

Overbites And Underbites When the upper part of the jaw and the lower part of the jaw are not the same size, bite problems can occur. When the lower jaw is smaller than the upper jaw, it is called an overbite. When the reverse is true, it is called an underbite. Another related alignment disorder is called a crossbite. Crossbites occur when lower teeth are in the wrong position. They may be incorrectly positioned sideways, forward or backward.

Malocclusion (literally ‘bad bite’) is the term used for all types of bite problems including overbites, underbites and crossbites. Jaw alignment disorders such as TMJ disorder can cause a range of problems and often prohibit proper chewing and/or swallowing. Teeth can shift around in the mouth, causing even more discomfort or difficulty. Gum disease and tooth decay are also harder to prevent because proper oral hygiene can be difficult with a malocclusion. TMJ disorder can develop over time. Distorted facial shape and unattractive teeth are often the most noticeable and troubling issues for those affected.

Fortunately, there are a variety of effective treatments for bite problems and TMJ disorder. If you suspect your child has a bite misalignment, it is especially important to have them examined as early as possible. By starting early, you can make sure they avoid years of pain and self-consciousness.

Call Boger Dental at 763-546-7707. Drs. Stephen & Chad Boger, DDS are experienced in diagnosing TMJ Disorder in patients of all ages. We can create a successful TMD therapy plan for you. We also perform cosmetic dentistry and dental implants for Minneapolis area dental clients.

Say goodbye to painful drills, and hello to teeth-growing gel

July 27th, 2010

French scientists are working on a gel that could repair minor cavities by helping teeth grow back in just a few weeks, saving many people from the pain and frightening drills used in filling procedures.

Potentially, this gel could improve the lives of millions worldwide who suffer from dental phobia, an unreasonable (and prevalent) fear of the dentist that causes people to put off routine care at nearly any cost - turning tiny problems into serious ones.

Around 10 to 15 percent of Americans suffer from dental phobia: that’s 30 to 40 million people. And it’s worse in other countries. For instance, in Britain, whose people are often caricatured with grotesque teeth (think Austin Powers), a government survey revealed that 35 percent of Brits, those who don’t regularly see the dentist, avoid it out of fear.

The tooth-rebuilding agent in the gel is melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH), which governs skin pigment and, as new studies show, bone regeneration in the body. In application, the gel is a painless solution to tooth decay, making it preferable to the old drill and fill procedure.

In three to five years, scientists think the gel will be ready for commercial use.

Dental Sealants

July 21st, 2010

Minneapolis Cosmetic Dentistry Dental sealants are a thin coat of clear resin that is applied to the biting surfaces of teeth, usually the rear molars. The back teeth are more prone to cavities because is difficult to reach them with a tooth brush and the surfaces contain pits and grooves that easily trap bacteria. It is hard for many adults to clean their back molars and almost impossible for our young Twin Cities, Plymouth, and Minneapolis children.

Dental sealants fill in the pits and grooves on the rear molars to create a smooth surface. A family dentist most often recommends sealants for children’s permanent back teeth, though sometimes they are used for adults, too.

Parents may not realize how quickly a cavity can form in a young child’s mouth. Many Minneapolis, Plymouth, and Twin Cities kids that we see develop cavities even before they start kindergarten! It is vital that our local parents start regular dental visits early. The American Dental Association advises that a child’s initial dental exam take place soon after the first tooth erupts, but no later than the toddler’s first birthday.

Dental sealants protect teeth that have no decay (primary prevention) and also prevent further decay progression in teeth that show very early signs of disease (secondary prevention).

At Boger Dental, we take special care of our Plymouth pediatric dental clients. We want each child’s dental visits to be pleasant and painless so they will never develop a fear of the dentist. We advise parents on the specific dental issues associated with each stage of childhood. Ask us about fluoride, sports mouthguards, and orthodontic treatment.

We are Drs. Stephen & Chad Boger of Boger Dental. We don’t believe that childhood cavities are unavoidable. Call our office at 763-546-7707 to schedule a pediatric dental exam.

We provide comprehensive restorative and cosmetic dentistry for Minneapolis people of all ages. Our office is located at 2720 Annapolis Circle N., Plymouth MN. You can learn more about my practice at http://www.bogerdental.com/our-services.cfm

Questions To Ask Your Plymouth Dentist

July 14th, 2010

Questions To Ask Your Plymouth Dentist Sometimes we research our Plymouth mechanic or St. Paul hairdresser more thoroughly than our Plymouth dental professional. Shouldn’t your dental care be far more important than the condition of your car or the style of your hair? At Boger Dental, we love to answer questions about your teeth. You should be asking your Minnesota dentist any question you have about the care and status of your teeth.

For instance, you may have questions about the school of dentistry and dental specialties studied. Though important, dentistry school is not the only place to gain dental experience, however. Dr. Stephen & Chad Boger have been performing complex Minnesota dental procedures since 1978.

You should also be asking about the dentistry specialties your Minnesota dentist offers such as tooth restoration, braces and lumineers. These services may not be important to you now, but it is a good idea to have an understanding of your options, and to know what your Minnesota dentist has to offer.

If you are contemplating smile restoration, tooth implants, or tooth whitening, evaluate Plymouth cosmetic dentistry options with your dentist. Look at before and after pictures, and ask your Plymouth dentist what procedures may be right for you.

General dentists offer a variety of dental services such as tooth extractions and tooth fillings, and can treat every member of the family. At Boger Dental, we specialize in cosmetic dentistry, family dentistry, and dental implants.

You have many choices for your Plymouth family dentistry. We welcome questions about all aspects of our Boger Dental practice. Visit us at 2720 Annapolis Circle N., Plymouth MN and talk to a member of our friendly and advanced team.
