Boger Dental Tooth Fairy Visits Area Classrooms

February 25th, 2010
Celebrating Children's Dental Health Month

Celebrating Children's Dental Health Month

In celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month, the Boger Dental Tooth Fairy and team members made visits to preschools and elementary schools throughout the community spreading the news about the importance of good dental care.

They talked with the kids about the importance of healthy eating, keeping their teeth clean and how to avoid getting cavities. In the elementary school classrooms, they had fun with a couple of activities to get them thinking about the important of their teeth for their mouths and bodies. One experiment demonstrated the amount of sugar in a can of soda and a bottle of a power drink. Our Tooth Fairy demonstrated how to use disclosing tablets to identify left over plaque that has not been brushed away and the importance of using a fluoride rinse after brushing at night. Finally, we gave out goodie bags with a toothbrush, floss, toothpaste and Xylitol toothbrushes and sugar-free gum.

A Brush Up On Brushing Techniques

A Brush Up On Brushing Techniques

We shared a few helpful tips with parents, too!
• Have your child brush morning and night with a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste.
• Have them floss their teeth every day. Floss aids work great for this age and I showed the children a couple of different examples.
• Use a daily fluoride swish, such as “Inspector Hector” or “ACT.” Listerine also has a great product to show kids their plaque before and after brushing their teeth.
• Consider allowing your child to chew sugar-free gum after meals. Make sure an active ingredient is Xylitol (like the samples we have included), which inhibit Strep Mutans that cause decay.
• Encourage your child to drink plenty of water that has added fluoride. If they drink only bottled water, find a source of water that has added fluoride.
• Limit their intake of sodas, power (sports) drinks and juices, as well as sweets and sticky snacks, such as fruit snacks.

Whiten Your Teeth – Donate to Charity

February 20th, 2010

My name is Steve Boger. Thanks for visiting our Smiles For Life blogsite and helping us make a difference in childrens’ lives both locally, and around the world. Here at Boger Dental we’re so pleased this year to be working with our local charity partner, Smile Network International in Minneapolis, to provide this opportunity for our neighbors in Plymouth—as well as in surrounding areas like Minneapolis, Maple Grove, and Wayzata—to have their smiles professionally whitened with 100% of the proceeds going to kids’ charities.

Stories like the one below make participating in Smiles For Life so fulfilling. A portion of the donations we’re raising here at Boger Dental help fund ongoing dental outreach expeditions to serve the “poorest of the poor” in countries around the world. Here’s a video from a recent expedition to the Dominican Republic, where hundreds of children received both preventative and rehabilitative dental treatment over the eight-day period.
