There are a lot of options out on the market for teeth whitening. Walk down the dental aisle at your local store and you’ll see plenty of at-home choices. Some of those at-home products can be questionable, meaning they may or may not work. So, how do you ensure you get whiter teeth without the hassle? Professional teeth whitening is the way to go. Come to Boger Dental, and we’ll make sure you get a brighter smile with Zoom! Advanced Power™.
How Zoom! Works
Zoom! Advanced Power™ is an in-office teeth whitening service that Boger Dental can do for you. We’ll start with a consultation where we’ll examine your teeth and gums to see if professional teeth whitening is the right path to take. At that time, we’ll agree on a technique that best fits you and your lifestyle, as well as shade assessment. Once you and your dentist decide on Zoom!, you’ll set up an additional appointment where teeth whitening will occur. We do suggest scheduling a regular tooth cleaning appointment before your whitening.
Your procedure will take about 2 hours to complete. Your dentist or dental assistant will apply Zoom’s hydrogen peroxide whitening gel in three 15-minute sessions. This gel works in conjunction with the Zoom light to help remove discoloration. Finally, a sensitivity paste-gel is applied to help combat sensitive teeth.
Here are five reasons people choose Zoom! over any other in-office whitening procedures:
- Low Maintenance
Maintaining Your Bright Smile
After your in-office appointment, taking care of your smile and keeping its whiteness is essential to getting the lasting benefits of Zoom! You’ll go home with a touch-up kit that has custom-fitted trays for you to use. Follow the tips your dentist gives to you about how and when you should use them. You might want to avoid certain foods and beverages like coffee, red wine, soda, and tea, as well as foods like blueberries that tend to stain your teeth.
- Sodas, teas, coffee, and red wine
- Food prone to staining like berries
- Tobacco products
- Toothpaste with whitening agents
- Mouthwash with whitening agents
- When needed, use your custom-fitted trays
How To Know If You’re a Candidate?
There are a few reasons one might not be a candidate for in-office teeth whitening. If your teeth and gums are susceptible to sensitivity, a dentist might recommend at-home versions where your teeth will be exposed to a lower concentration of carbamide peroxide. Some stains can be resistant to treatments like existing dental work. If your teeth become transparent (usually with age), it can be tough for the peroxide to stick because those areas of the tooth are thin. But always consult with your dentist to see which route is the one for you!
Considerations and Cost
One thing to consider when doing any teeth whitening is that tooth sensitivity may occur. During the appointment, you might feel the minimal heat from the Zoom light, and some tingling both during and afterward. The tingling will dissipate after awhile, but if you have continued discomfort from sensitivity after the procedure, we suggest you use toothpaste that is for sensitive teeth.
You’ll also want to note that existing cosmetic dental work like crowns, veneers, and bonding will not respond to these types of whitening products because they are one set color. Discuss with your dentist the routes to take so you don’t have technicolor teeth.
Beyond the considerations of potentially sensitive teeth, cost does come into play. Zoom typically costs around $500, but that includes your take-home trays. Because dental insurance doesn’t always cover cosmetic dentistry treatments, you’ll want to check with your specific policy to see what the costs will be. Take a look at our payment options and see how we can help you get the smile you’ve been dreaming of.
